Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When all his detachment except himself had become casualties from the enemy's shell fire, he carried on the service of his gun without missing a round until help could be obtained from other sub-sections. His great coolness and courage throughout the day set a splendid example to his men.'
