'During the attack on the BLUE LINE on 10th - 12th August 1918 this soldier showed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During this period he acted as company runner and was constantly employed delivering despatches to Battalion Headquarters and flanking companies under heavy fire. He worked with the greatest energy and daring and was of the utmost assistance in setting back urgent information. His conduct throughout was of a very high order.'
