Military Medal 'On the night 1st/2nd September 1918, near PERONNE, this Non-commissioned-officer was in charge of an advanced telephone exchange. Great difficulty was experience in maintaining the lines throughout the night owing to the area being subjected to a heavy hostile shoot of high explosive and gas. The linesman of this exchange party was killed, and dafter connecting the line through to one of the batteries, this man at once proceeded to patrol it. By his initiative and constant devotion to duty satisfactory communications were maintained from the forward exchange to the batteries at a period when the Infantry urgently required Artillery support.'
