Other details |
While on training at Fraser Paddock, these boys from the bush, became so engrossed in their new surroundings, especially all the water in the Bay, they overstayed their leave only to find on returning to camp, no tents, no men and no horses. All had gone to war without them. He returned to Charleville to go back to droving, but as all his friends had joined up, he returned to Brisbane and re-enlisted, using the name John SMITH. On his return from overseas he resumed his occupation as a Drover and Station Hand, horse breaking and various tasks around the Charleville area. He moved his family to Brisbane during World War II and for the remainder of his life he operated Racing Stables at Deagon in Brisbane; still with his beloved horses. An exceptional Horseman all his life. ~ |
