Wounded in action, 4 May 1917 (gun shot wound, right arm); admitted to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station, 5 May 1917; transferred to Ambulance Train No 114, and admitted to No 5 General Hospital, Rouen, 5 May 1917; transferred to England, 21 May 1917, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, 22 May 1917; discharged on furlough, 3 August 1917, to report to No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 17 August 1917.

Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 17 August 1917; discharged to Convalescent Training Depot, Parkhouse, 22 January 1918; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 159 days. Marched out from Convalescent Training Depot, Parkhouse to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 31 January 1918. Admitted to Military Hospital, Sutton Veny, 4 February 1918 (myalgia); discharged to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 12 February 1918. Marched out to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 20 April 1918.

Marched out to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 5 December 1918.
