Meritorious Service Medal 'For conspicuous good work and devotion to duty during the periods 16th/17th September, 1918, to11th November, 1918. C.S.M. SMITH's work for the whole period has been worthy of the highest commendation. As a Section N.C.O. his section was always most efficient and the welfare of his men and horses was always of his first thought. As C.S.M. his work was particularly good and the standard of excellence maintained was very high.'
