Military Medal

'Near BONY on 29th and 30th September 1918, this soldier did splendid work in rescuing and carrying to shelter wounded men. For 36 hours he worked untiringly under heavy artillery and machine gun fire clearing the forward areas of casualties, both our own and American, and carrying them to the R.A.P. until he collapsed from exhaustion. His courage and enterprise was undoubtedly the means of saving the lives of many men.'
