War service: disembarked at Suez, 7 December 1915. Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 16 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 23 June 1916. Wounded in action, 26 October 1916 (gun shot wound, right eye and right thigh). Admitted to 1st Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 29 October 1916; transferred to England, 1 November 1916, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Birmingham. Discharged from hospital and granted furlough, 21 February 1917, to report to No. 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 8 March 1917. Marched in to No. 2 Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 11 May 1917 (on duty); marched in to Anzac Provost Corps, Tidworth, 28 August 1917 (on duty). Admitted to Group Clearing Hospital, Sutton Veny, 11 January 1918 (old gun shot wound). Commenced return to Australia on board 'Field Marschall', 12 March 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 22 May 1918; discharged, 27 June 1918 (loss of right eye).
