Admitted to 3rd Australian General Hospital, England (goitre), 29 December 1916; transferred to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 13 February 1917. Marched in to 9th Training Bn, 31 March 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 22 May 1917. Marched in to Australian General Base Depot, Etaples, 23 May 1917; marched out to join unit, 8 June 1917; taken on strength, 4th Bn, 11 June 1917.

Wounded in action, 4 October 1917. Admitted to 17th Casualty Clearing Station (gunshot wound, back and chest), 5 October 1917; thence to Ambulance Train 32 to England. Admitted to Middlesex War Hospital, 16 November 1917; transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, 9 January 1918; discharged to No. 2 Convalescent Depot, 14 January 1918.

Commenced return to Australia, 31 January 1918; disembarked Sydney, 15 April 1918. Discharged, 18 May 1918, on account of being medically unfit.
