War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 22 December 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 3 March 1917; marched in to 13th Light Horse Regiment Details, 4 March 1917. Admitted to Delhi Military Hospital, 7 April 1917 (pneumonia); discharged to Depot, 28 April 1917. Transferred to Artillery Details, Heytesbury, 14 November 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 7 March 1918; marched in to Base Depot, Rouelles, 8 March 1918. Taken on strength, 30th Battery, 8th Field Artillery Brigade, in the field, 14 March 1918. Appointed Driver, 1 October 1918. Wounded in action, 23 October 1918 (gun shot wound, right arm and foot), and admitted to 2/3 East Lancashire Field Ambulance, and transferred to 47th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to Ambulance Train No 23, 28 October 1918, and admitted to No 1 General Hospital, Etretat, 29 October 1918; transferred to England, 5 November 1918, and admitted to Southwark Military Hospital; right arm amputated at shoulder and right foot amputated, 7 November 1918; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 2 December 1918; to 2nd Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 5 December 1918; discharged on furlough, 5 March 1919, to report to No 2 Auxiliary Hospital, 8 April 1919. Commenced return to Australia on board HS 'Karoola', 6 May 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 24 June 1919; discharged (medically unfit), 6 August 1919.
