Driver Herbert Maitland STACY No. 1100 enlisted aged 27 on 25 September 1914 and returned to Australia on 21 May 1917. He was discharged on 9th October 1917 in Sydney after serving three years and 14 days (two years 296 days of which were spent abroad).

He re-enlisted on 6 September 1918 No. 67469 aged 31 as a Corporal in the New South Wales Reinforcement 25, sailing from Sydney per SS `Carpentaria' on 7 November 1918 and returned to Australia being discharged in Sydney on 12 December 1918 having spent 97 days in service (21 days of which were spent abroad)

At the time of his second enlistment his address was stated as being Wauchope, NSW and his next of kin being his father, F Stacy of Wetherall Street, Croydon, NSW
