'On the morning of the 13th October, 1917, this N.C.O. was in charge of a detail of ammunition wagons on the MENIN ROAD, east of YPRES. Enemy shelling blocked the road by disabling a wagon in front of this N.C.O.'s party. This N.C.O. went forward and cleared the road of the disabled wagon, which was holding up the whole traffic, and which had been deserted by its own men. Shelling at this point was very heavy. His action enabled the block on the road to be cleared, and he showed great coolness and resourcefulness in relieving an awkward and dangerous situation. His action deserves special recognition. Awarded Military Medal 2nd December, 1917.'
