Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 12 August 1917, pronounced fate as 'Killed in Action, 20 July 1916'.

Statement, Red Cross File No 2600610, 18 Corporal R. McDONALD, 32nd Bn: 'I saw him hit in the forehead by rifle fire I think about 50 yards from our own trenches in No Man's Land. After advancing about 50 yards we were lying down and his head was near my shoulder. He said "I am hit" and I turned around and saw that he had been killed or badly wounded. We had to advance a few moments after.'
