War service: Egypt, Western Front Taken on strength of 32nd Bn, Duntroon Plateau, 6 April 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916. Wounded in action, 19 July 1916. Previous report of wounded now, 13 September 1916, to be reported as 'Missing, no Wounded, 20 July 1916'. Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 12 August 1917, pronounced fate as 'Killed in Action, 20 July 1916'. Statement, Red Cross File No 2600610, 18 Corporal R. McDONALD, 32nd Bn: 'I saw him hit in the forehead by rifle fire I think about 50 yards from our own trenches in No Man's Land. After advancing about 50 yards we were lying down and his head was near my shoulder. He said "I am hit" and I turned around and saw that he had been killed or badly wounded.
