Embarked Brisbane, 17 November 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 30 January 1917, and marched into 8th Training Bn, Hurdcott, the same day.

Admitted to Camp 10 Hospital, Hurdcott, 14 March 1917; transferred to Parkhouse Hospital, 15 March 1917; to No 1 Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 11 April 1917 (not for venereal disease); discharged, 16 May 1917; marched into 8th Training Bn, Hurdcott, 17 May 1917.

Found guilty, 15 September 1917, of being absent without leave from midnight, 4 September 1917, until 0630 hours, 14 September 1917: awarded 10 days' detention, and total forfeiture of 20 days' pay.

Proceeded overseas to France, 17 October 1917; marched into 5th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Le Havre, 18 October 1917.

Proceeded to unit, 21 October 1917; taken on strength of 31st Bn, 26 October 1917.

Detached to No 2 Signal Section, 8th Bde Headquarters, 15 March 1918; rejoined unit, 25 March 1918.

On leave to United Kingdom, 7 October 1918; rejoined unit, 25 October 1918.

On leave to Paris, 8 February 1919.

While on leave, admitted to No 6 Canadian Hospital, Joinville le Pont, 16 February 1919 (influenza, dangerously ill).
