'At BULLECOURT on 11th April 1917 as a runner this Lieutenant soldier displayed great bravery in delivering a despatch from the HINDENBURG Line to the 12th Machine Gun Company Headquarters at NORIEUL. He passed through heavy artillery and machine gun fire and although badly wounded in the head he delivered his despatch before evacuated to hospital.'
