Military Medal 'This man has performed consistently good work over a long period, as a stretcher bearer. During the operations East of AMIENS, his work was invaluable. On September 2nd 1918 at ALLAINES and HAUT-ALLAINES, East of AMIENS, in an attack by the 7th Australian Infantry Brigade, the casualties in the 27th Battalion were very heavy. Private STENGHEL followed the front line and under heavy machine gun and rifle fire, and the direct fire of an enemy .77 gun battery, quietly and calmly administered to the wants of the wounded, showing the utmost bravery, coolness, and devotion to duty, and setting a fine example to all ranks. Private STENGHEL has repeatedly shown the same bravery under fire, and total disregard for his own personal safety, when the requirements of the wounded have needed his attention.'
