'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 4th October, 1917, near BELLEWARDE (east of YPRES), prior to Zero hour for the attack one of the guns of the Battery was hit by a shell. The Battery was under heavy shell fire. This N.C.O. continued at his work of repairing the damage throughout, thus enabling the Battery to open fire at Zero hour with all its guns. This N.C.O. was recommended on 24th September, 1917, for Mention in Despatches in the next General List.'
