Military Medal 'On October 1st on the Western slope of the BROODSEINDE Ridge the position we held had an extremely limited field of fire. When the enemy counter attacked Pte STEVENS was foremost in to the parapet in order to use his rifle with greater effect. Later when our attack on the 4th ..........had been launched he volunteered for duty as a stretcher bearer and did excellent work in searching shellholes in the shell swept zone for wounded who had been overlooked. This he continued to do successfully until ordered to............. During the whole operation his energy and devotion to duty were most marked.'
