Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry at LIHONS on 11th August 1918, when acting as Company Runner he rendered most conspicuous service in carrying messages to Platoon and Battalion Headquarters. Private STEVENS freqently had to carry through very heavy fire. On one occasion whilst carrying a message to Battalion Headquarters, he found himself surrounded by a party of the enemy. It was only his remarkable, initiative and dash that enabled him to get through with a most important message.'
