'During the whole of the recent operations at PLOEGSTEERT this man acted as Cycle Orderly between the various Railway Sidings and dumps, and the Officers controlling the supply of ammunition, carrying important and urgent messages as to ammunition requirements. These messages were carried at all hours both day and night, and frequently under heavy shell fire and through gas. This gunner's devotion to duty and gallantry carried him through all difficulties.'
