Military Medal 'In the operations north east of GUEUDECOURT on night 4th/5th February, 1917, Private STEWART was a Company runner. He ran with urgent messages through to Battalion Headquarters and carried flares and S.A.A. back through heavy shelling. He was one of the first men in the trench in the charge. Later on he guided a number of walking patients down to the R.A.P. and returned at once. He volunteered as a bomber with Private ROBERTSON (recommended for V.C.) on the right flank. He remained on duty until very severely wounded. STEWART is an exceptionally brave man, and is very strongly recommended for distinction.'
