Military Medal 'At POLYGON WOOD on 26/28 September 1917, throughout the operation, this N.C.O. showed great leadership and determination of purpose. he went into action as Platoon Commander, and gallantly led his men on the the tape, and led them forward when the barrage fell. When advancing from 1st to 2nd objective, he organised men of various units, and led them forward to their position. it was mainly due to his determination that these men reached their objective. During the period while the Battalion was in support, he was Acting Company Sergeant Major, and helped in brightening up the men by his cheerful manner and encouragement. When the Battalion fell back a little way to take up a stronger position, he rescued one of his men who was stunned by the bursting of a shell.'
