Military Medal 'On 31st July, near MESSINES, Bombadier STEWART was a member of a detachment of a single gun placed in a necessarily very exposed position. The No. 1 of the detachment being severely wounded, Bombadier STEWART took charge of this gun and fired throughout several S.O.S. Calls although always subjected to heavy shell fire. It was largely due to the courage and example set by this N.C.O. that the gun was enabled to fire 360 rounds during the day, thus contributing materially to the success of the operations.'
