Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the opertions on the YPRES Front from the 4th to 12th October, 1917. He drove his lorry evacuating wounded from the BIRR CROSS ROADS and MENIN ROAD when this route was being heavily shelled and he maintained his position in the circuit of lorries without fail, on one occasion running for 36 hours with only a few minutes rest between rips. During the night 4th/5th October, 1917, his lorry was hit with shrapnel but his coolness allowed him to carry on successfully in spite of the inky darkness and consequent danger of running off the road. The courage and devotion to duty of this driver very materially assisted in the evacuation of a great number of wounded.'
