'This Gunner has done continuous good service in his position as Cook at the Battery position, which duty he has carried out since September 22nd, 1917. During the six weeks his Battery was engaged in the operation for the capture of the PASSCHENDAELE RIDGE, this man never failed, although under continuous shell-fire, in serving the gunners with a hot meal, thus materially helping to maintain the good spirit and efficiency of the Battery. His courage and perseverance were an example to all.'
