'During the period 23/28th October 1917, near ZONNEBEKE, East of YPRES the rations and stores had to be carried forward by pack train over very heavily barraged tracks. On one occasion when the train was caught by a very heavy barrage Driver SUHAN was wounded and his horse killed. Several of the other horses stampeded and Driver SUHAN though suffering severely chased one of them over the shell holes, led him to the dump, and collapsed just as he reached it. His courage and devotion to duty were the means of getting much needed rations up to the line.'
