Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916. Wounded in action, 19 July 1916 (gun shot wound, thigh); admitted to 15th Field Ambulance, 20 July 1916; transferred same day to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, and then to Ambulance Train No 18; admitted to 25th General Hospital, Boulogne, 21 July 1916; transferred to 5th Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples; rejoined Bn, in the field, 15 August 1916. Found guilty, 11 November 1916, of being absent without leave, 4pm-7.30 pm: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2.
