War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 7 February 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 11 April 1917, and marched into 5th Training Bn, Rollestone. Transferred to 62nd Bn, 28 April 1917. Appointed Acting Driver, 6 August 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 23 August 1917; taken on strength, 35th Bn, in the field, 1 September 1917. Admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance, 30 October 1917 (ICT, feet), and transferred same day to 4th Stationary Hospital, Arques. Discharged to No 7 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 4 November 1917; to No 10 Convalescent Depot, Ecault, 15 November 1917; discharged to Base, Rouelles, 27 November 1917.
