Wounded in action, 19 July 1916 (gun shot wound, shoulder), and admitted to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station; transferred by Ambulance Train to No 1 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 22 July 1916; to England, 22 July 1916, and admitted to 1st Northern General Hospital, Newcastle, 23 July 1916 (wound severe); transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 4 December 1916; discharged on furlough, 8 December 1916, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 28 December 1916.

Temporarily detached for duty with Officers' Cub, Piccadilly, 8 August 1917; marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 20 September 1917.
