Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry on 9 August, 1918, near Lihons. When his platoon commander became a casualty this N.C.O. took charge and pressed on to the objective across ground swept by heavy machine gun fire. A counter attack developed but he placed his platoon in position and drove the enemy back.'
