'On May 15th Gunner TOOGOOD was serving on a detached gun about 300 yards from the main battery position in LAGNICOURT VALLEY. In response to an 'S.O.S.' signal, this gun was brought into action. It was heavily counter-batteried by an enemy 5.9" battery, firing alternately gas shell. The officers, telephonist, and the whole of the detachment except Corporal DREW and Gunner TOOGOOD were either wounded or gassed, and these two men continued to fire the gun until it was put out of action. Gunner TOOGOOD then reported to the main battery position and served another gun until the battery was permitted to cease fire.'
