Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack. When a portion of the line was held up he dashed forward alone against an enemy machine gun post, threw a bomb amongst the crew, jumped into the post and single handed killed the crew and captured the gun. The attack then proceeded. He behaved magnificently.'
