Bar to Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. The enemy opened up a heavy fire upon our men, who were assaulting the final objective, from a certain redoubt. He, together with a sergewwant, went forward to this redubt, and the remainder routed. This performance was one of great coolness and courage, and by this gallant deed many valuable lives were saved.'
