Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Though wounded, he returned to duty in the firing line, and showed great gallantry and determination. He has consistently done good work'.

The enemy opened up a heavy fire upon our men, who were assaulting the final objective, from a certain redoubt. He, together with a sergewwant, went forward to this redubt, and the remainder routed. This performance was one of great coolness and courage, and by this gallant deed many valuable lives were saved.'
