Taken on strength of 16th Bn, Gallipoli Peninsula, 4 June 1915; marched in to Alexandria, Egypt, 30 December 1915; transferred to 4th Machine Gun Company, Tel el Kabir, 9 March 1916. Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, , 1 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 9 June 1916.

Admitted to 1st AAS, 21 February 1917 (scabies); discharged to duty, 1 March 1917; appointed Driver, 9 March 1916; reverted to Private at own request, 10 November 1917; on leave to England, 12 November 1917; returned to unit from leave, 30 November 1917; marched in to Australian General Base Depot, Havre, France, 4 August 1918; marched in to Weymouth Command Depot, England, 16 August 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Sardinia', 19 October 1918; disembarked Perth, 16 December 1918; discharged, 15 February 1919 (medically unfit: premature senility).
