Military Medal

'For his gallant conduct and prompt action at VILLERS BRETONNEUX on the 2nd May, 1918. At about 5 a.m. a party of Germans about 50 strong was advancing on his post which was in an isolated position having just been established and which it was of the utmost importance to hold. He immediately opened fire on the party with his Lewis gun causing a number of casualties. It was due to his very prompt action that the attack was delayed and finally driven off. His work during the whole tour in the line was excellent.'
