Military Medal 'On the 8th October at BRANCOURT this man was a linesman with a Forward Section supporting the exploiting infantry. It was necessary to establish an O.P. on the high ground East of the village and to get the guns into action quickly to deal with hostile Machine Guns which were holding up the advance. The enemy had placed a heavy barrage of High Explosive and Gas Shell on the area. With great bravery and determination this man took a wire right through the shelling and maintained it enabling the guns to be successfully used. By his efforts on this and on subsequent occasions during the day he rendered very valuable services. He showed great courage and devotion to duty in both trying and dangerous conditions and his work was of the utmost value.'
