Father wrote to base Records, 19 January 1917, seeking any information: 'I should be obliged if you could kindly let me know the present position from the Military point of view, the uncertainty being very wearing to the members of his family.'

Note on Red Cross File No 2790106: 'The above name appeared on German death list dated 4-11-16.'

Father wrote to Base Records, enclosing a copyof a letter from Australian Branch Red Cross Society, London, 15 December 1916, informing him that his son's name had been included on a German death list. Father wrote: 'Though reluctant to give trouble, our anxiety will, I am sure, be to you sufficient excuse [to seek further information].'

Originally listed as 'No Known Grave' and commemorated at V.C. Corner (Panel No 6), Australian Cemetery, Fromelles; subsequently (2010) identified, and interred in the Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery, France.
