Military Medal 'For most conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack near BEAUREVOIR, east of PERONNE, on 4th October, 1918. When his platoon was checked by machine gun fire from an enemy post, this Lewis gunner dashed forward firing from the hip and engaged the enemy gun. His fire forced the enemy to evacuate and enabled our advance to proceed. Arriving at the objective he pushed forward with his gun to cover the consolidation. Though exposed not only to frontal but also to enfilade fire he held on in this position and caused considerable loss to the enemy, who in scattered parties were endeavouring to dig in close to our trenches. This man's bearing and skill at arms were most marked.'
