Military Medal 'On the afternoon of 14th October, 1917, working with his convoy on ANZAC RIDGE near WESTHOEK carting planks for road making several teams became bogged. He assisted in extrication several wagons and teams his own wagon being hopelessly bogged and abandoned. He covered over shell holes with planks to enable wagons to proceed and by devotion to duty enabled all wagons except one to be salved. During this period, 1 1/2 hours, enemy heavy shell fire was persistent on both sides of the road and the detachment was frequently struck by flying debris.'
