Medals

Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations of 26th, 27th and 28th August 1918 which resulted in the capture of FOUCAUCOURT and the advancing of our line beyond ESTREES. This N.C.O. was attached to the right platoon of the left attacking Company which was heavily engaged by machine guns and was unable to move in any direction for some little time. It was most necessary to inform the Company on the right of this fact, but the three runners who were sent with the message were all killed. After the third runner had been killed this N.C.O. volunteered to make the attempt and succeeded in delivering the message to the Right Company Commander who was then able to make the necessary dispositions to deal with the opposition. The great gallantry and high sense of duty displayed by this N.C.O. was a source of inspiration to his platoon.'
