Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry at HAMEL WOOD, south east of CORBIE on 4th July, 1918. During the advance this soldier acting as a runner encountered a sniper who had escaped the barrage and forward waves and was now sniping from the rear. Private TWINING charged with the bayonet wounding his men and being unable to get his bayonet into action again carried on with his fists. During and after consolidation he carried valuable messages back to Headquarters through continual shelling. He rendered valuable service.'
