Military Medal 'For gallant conduct and devotion to duty. On the evening of 29th September 1918 at Guillemont Farm Ruins near Bony, when the forward area was continuously swept by machinegun fire this N.C.O. went out from the trench about 100 yards single handed and in full view of the enemy, picked up an American soldier who was unable to walk, owing to a fractured leg, and carried him to safety amidst a hail of machine gun bullets. This act of courage resulted in the saving of the man's life who otherwise would have died from exposure.'
