Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the attack, on 18 September, 1918, east of Le Verguier. During the advance his pack horse got into difficulties while crossing a barb wire zone, whjch was then being shelled by the enemy. After seeing his crews safely established, he returned to the pack horses and brought them safely to the guns. His action was the means of assuring an adequate supply of ammunition.'
