War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 16 December 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 18 February 1917. Marched in to 4th Training Bn, Codford, 12 March 1917. Found guilty, Codford, 25 June 1917, of being absent without leave from midnight, 19 June, to 10.30 pm, 22 June 1917: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of a total of 8 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 9 July 1917; joined 14th Bn, in the field, 27 July 1917. Admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance, 9 September 1917 (dysentery), and transferred to 58th Casualty Clearing Station, and then to 1st Casualty Clearing Station; to 46th Stationary Hospital, Etaples, 21 September 1917; to 6th Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 13 October 1917 (diarrhoea); to 14th Convalescent Depot, Trouville, 19 October 1917; to 4th Australian Division Base Depot, Havre, 27 November 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 7 December 1917.
