War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 8 July 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 31 August 1916, and marched into 15th Training Bn, Larkhill. Proceeded overseas to France, 5 December 1916; taken on strength, 57th Bn, in the field, 24 December 1916. Wounded in action, 11 May 1917 (gun shot wound, right thigh), and admitted same day to 29th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 22nd General Hospital, Camiers, 14 May 1917; to England, 25 May 1917, and admitted to Queen Alexander Hospital same day (gun shot wound, right leg); to 2nd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 26 July 1917; discharged on furlough, 28 July 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, 11 August 1917. Commenced return to Australia on board 'HT 'Benalla', 25 August 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 24 October 1917; discharged (medically unfit), Melbourne, 30 November 1917.
