Wounded in action, 24 May 1915 (gun shot wound, shoulder), and admitted to Military Hospital, Valetta, Malta; transferred to England, and admitted to 2nd Western General Hospital, Manchester, 28 June 1915. Commenced return to Australia from Plymouth on board HT 'Suevic', 8 October 1915. Died at sea (sarcoma of lungs: cancer; exhaustion), 29 October 1915. Buried at sea.
