Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 29th August 1918 at FEUILLERES near PERONNE. Sergeant WAGNER was N.C.O. in charge of a party reconstructing a bridge over the SOMME River and Canal which was urgently needed for Field Artillery and Horse Transport in support of the infantry attacking PERONNE. Despite the fact that the bridgehead was under continuous fire from 8" guns it was largely owing to the great determination and initiative displayed by Sergeant WAGNER that his most important work was successfully completed. He set a splendid example of courage to all his comrades.'
