Battery was being heavily shelled with 5.9" Howitzers. One 5.9" shell burst in the midst of the party killing two instantly and wounding two more. These two men immediately left the man on the stretcher who was badly wounded lying there and departed. Corpl. THOMAS and Bdr. WALKER immediately went over through heavy shell fire and carried the wounded man into a place of comparative safety and as soon as the shelling eased down assisted to carry the man to a dressing station.'
