Military Medal 'On 12th October 1917, East of YPRES, he displayed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action. After twenty four hours hard fighting, under heavy fire and trying conditions, this N.C.O. voluntarily organised parties for carrying out the wounded. As one party of bearers became exhausted, he organised another and for 24 hours helped to carry wounded over a swamp, being continuously exposed to heavy enemy shell fire. His cheerfulness and bravery were a fine example to all.'
