Military Medal 'At MESSINES on the 10th June 1917. As a runner Private WALL proved himself a very resourceful, cool and reliable man. On patrol under heavy Machine Gun and sniper fire he showed great courage and initiative bringing back valuable information. As a runner on June 12th he cheerfully faced the almost constant barrage between the front line and Battalion Headquarters a distance of about 3/4 of a mile.'
Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 219 Date: Bar to Military Medal 'For conspicuous devotion to duty under heavy hostile artillery fire on 15th July 1917 in PLOEGSTEERT WOOD. Private Lance/Corporal WALL was in charge of a working party, two of whom were killed and 7 wounded. he immediately obtained assistance for all the wounded except one, who was missing. He personally searched the wood and eventually found this man severely wounded. His untiring efforts in searching for him under heavy artillery fire undoubtedly saved this man's life.'
